🔫3D Printed Guns; What Is Your Opinion?

I have been watching an interesting documentary about 3D printed guns in the making and they actually fire just as well as your normal fire arm. However I feel it does have more dangers raising risks by making the purchase of guns easily available and or accessible for anyone to buy. Even more worrisome is that these 3D printed guns do not have serial numbers therefor making them untraceable and highly illegal. The fact that they also fire as normal and can range from your normal Glock to even AK47’s and are easily available now a days make me wonder about our safety as I feel that guns should not be easily purchased and or owned by people that may misuse the fire arms purpose serving as a last resort self defense and or protection for yourself increasing gun related crimes immediately. What is your opinion on this do you think that 3D printed guns is a good idea?

Hi Shane, thank you for sharing this great information.

I have known 3D printing for a while. But it is the first time for me to know that a gun can be created from a 3D printer. I think it will make gun production easier and the fact that it has no serial number will be dangerous in a country where gun ownership is allowed by law.

Does 3D-printed gun has been freely available in your country?

No Ahmad not available in South Africa yet the documentary and follow up research led me to conclude that these 3D printed guns are more easily come by in certain overseas countries as the price of 3D printers have become a lot more affordable there.

Also I have mentioned that these guns are highly illegal and should not really be sold in the first place and I do not really think there will be a law passed to allow 3D printing for the manufacture of fire arms.

It will create many confusion ,if it don’t have serial number,to identify who is the ownership of the gun. The serial number is very useful for investigate about crime committed by an unknown person.

Exactly Leno gun related crimes will most definitely increase as guns will then be easily accessible to anyone and the person’s intentions might not always be for protection and can cause much harm and the availability does pose a threat.

The gun serial number is essential to trace the owner of the gun. In case that weapon is used in a crime, the owner will be the one who takes the responsibility. However, the criminals, who intend to do evil from the first time, would not use a gun with serial number tracing back to himself. This 3D printed gun, since it is easier to produce, will make the criminals get the gun easier.

They are very dangerous and they are also very hard to detect and control. I am not sure how they can be stopped by law enforcement.

The developement of the new technology and innovation will be a big problem in the future if human does not control himself. Yes it has make things better and easier than before but we have to be ready to face the unexpected consequences.

I don’t think a 3D printed gun is a good idea.  It looks like this consept will have a big potensial in the illigal market.     I understood from your description that such weapons is without serial numbers and works like an ordinary gun.  This is a dangerous development.  I hope it can be stopped before it is produced too many of such weapons.

Shane Collins replied 3 weeks ago

Steinar I also hope the manufacture of 3D printed guns will get stopped gun related crimes will definitely increase and for sure make the sale of guns to criminals a lot more accessible so stopping it would be best.
