👹 Do You Think Dictator’s Days Are Numbered?
When I talk of dictatorship, I think many people especially in the developed countries try to figure out I’m mean! This is because in such countries, this word is read in history books. But, it’s true that it’s still happening in the world in the 21st century especially here in Africa. Some people are still striving under such systems of governance! One can wonder, but it’s still happening in the current civilization. We still have leaders who want to rear their fellow citizens as animals. People don’t have any rights to live in their countries, they live like domesticated animals! You can wonder if it’s true, but it’s happening especially here in Africa. In not just one, but many African countries, dictatorial leaders just maim, shoot, and kill their fellow citizens without any ramose. It happened here Uganda last week, where more than 50 people were shot dead because of protesting the arrest of a certain presidential candidate whom they supported and was arrested by security agents. You can wonder what the hell is happening, but it’s true.! Therefore, these protests mean something. They mean that citizens are tired of these Dictator’s high handedness. Do they also signal the last days of doctors like president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda? Are we soon about to see the end dictatorship governance? What’s your opinion?
The dictatorship era will end in a country when the people of that country become more aware of the situation and think that dictatorship is not suitable for them. The power of people who are aware and know exactly what they want is the powerful forces that will end any dictatorship. It is happen in Indonesia with the fall of President Suharto regime. He is the president of Indonesia for 32 years and intensively use military power to create political and social stability. But, in 1998, the people want a change in the way the country is governed. Thus, reformation occurred and mark the beginning of democracy in Indonesia.
Thé dictatorial government and regime is based in most African countries, they shoot, kill, throw in prison whoever tried to change the way their running the population. In my country Gunnea we have uncountable number of protesters, innocent citizens that have lost their lives. Many brave young person are in prison right now for nothing. As someone mentioned above only when the whole population will decided and make decision to end with that regime, is the best solution. A small group of people can not do anything. Other thing is if the military suppor the population it can change quickly but if the regime is supported by the military the population will paye a large price.
Dictatorships have always been there throughout history and causing a lot of human suffering. Many were toppled by other dictators who simply replaced them and the suffering continued.
Sometimes they were toppled by popular uprisings that manage to put up new but weak governing structures in their place. Unfortunately such structures never last and sooner or later a new dictator comes along and seize power with the help of the army. We’ve seen a lot of such overthrowing of governments and dictatorships in many parts of Africa.
As long as there is no proper structures to replace the old ones, the dictatorships will just keep on changing hands.
There have been many dictatorial government in the world, many of them was force of killed to leave the Power specially in Africa. Even though there are still many dictators in the power
like Paul Bya,Tiodoro of new equatorial, Maduro of Mexico and China’s communist president ; with the apparition of the new democracy, the number are decreasing years by years.
All they want is power and to enforce their ideas on everyone in their country. They achieve power through violence and intimidation and knowing that if they do what they do they can suppress peoples thoughts.
There are still many examples of dictators around the world yes Africa, the Middle East and of course China and Russia to a degree.
Dictatorships will always happen because there are always countries that will allow it or have not control over it. Plus other countries don’t like to actively get involved these days due to all the conflict it causes.
Ending dictators especially in Africa is not easy .They work with police , army and even other public officials, who support the regime because they have jobs in government.Even people who should fight for justice fear to talk, especially Religious leaders.
The only hope for ending dictatorship,is only when the army becomes against it’s leadership. This happened in Zimbabwe against dictator Robert Mugabe. The army removed him from power , when he became to old to run government.
Yes quite right Eli, the people need to up rise against dictators and hopefully the armies will be strong enough to support them.
Gareth. I have seen this happen in the Arab world, most probably it will spread in other parts of the world. But it really comes at very high cost because dictators don’t value human life. They can slaughter as many as they can. Recently in my country, there were some riots because an opposition Politician who is vying for the office of the president, with a dictator who has ruled for close to 40 years was arrested. The protests took only one day but close to 100 people were shot dead here in Uganda’s capital city. It was so scary. Dictators can do anything because they don’t lose anything.
