Do You Think Your Government Has Done Enough to It’s Citizens During This COVID-19 Pandemic?
During this pandemic, many governments across the globe have come up with efforts to help out their citizens to cope up with the situation. United States, UK and many others have been doing this. However, when it comes to Africa, to be precise, my country Uganda, it has been the other way around. Taking into consideration, the poverty levels that this pandemic has left many people in, any responsible government should be devising means on how it’s people can be assisted to rehabilitate their lives. Do you think your government has done enough to assist it’s people out of the effects of this pandemic?
I do not think my country did what was necessary to stop the outbreak of Corona virus, due to the following reasons
They put lockdown ,restrictions on internal trade in my country Uganda ,when people who almost were sick ,l mean those travelling by air where still allowed to travel internationally. This was the group which brought the epidemic.
Secondly ,the epidemic started when the country was is preparing elections, movement restrictions were more imposed to members of opposition , while those who support the current regime would move and be accepted to have campaign rallies .
Last but not least individuals working in government got an advantage of stealing government money in the name of corona virus.
I my opinion what the government did during this pandemic problem was enough Even though they were not prepared to face such situation.
Many people died, some are under treatment.we have to let things go and think positive. Let s be proud of what they did ,encourage them.
Only God is perfect and capable to solve everything.
The government in Nigeria has done nothing to palliate the economic effects of covid-19 pandemic on her citizens.
The Australian Government has done a lot to support business and individuals get through the pandemic. We had stimulus packages to business that lost revenue and stimulus packages to ensure that businesses maintained the employment relationship with people. The Government closed the borders and everyone that came into the country was and still is required to spend two weeks in hotel quarantine. Individual states in Australia have restricted movement within the country and we have had to live with social restrictions and a period of lockdown where movement was severely restricted.
The question should be, Does the government has prepared enough to face a crisis situation like COVID-19?
No government has done enough to support its citizen during pandemic. They only do what they can, not what really alleviate the suffering of its citizen.
A good government should foresee the event like the COVID-19 pandemic (or even the worse event) in their normal time. Thus, they can prepare everything necessary. Currently, almost all government is reactive toward the pandemic, not proactive.
I personally think the UK Government has done a fairly good job to date. Yes we can all say they should have more and reacted quicker blah blah blah but who would have done anything better – NO ONE!! It is an unprecedented pandemic, no one knew it was coming (except China) so things take time to react to and make sure you are following the right procedures and science.
Yes I lost my mum to COVID19 but was that the government fault? No
The South African government did fairly well to contain the pandemic. They assembled a team of scientists to advise them on models, predictions and the variants of the virus, enabling them to put the necessary structures in place. We were put under a strict lockdown for 3 months starting at the end of March.
That helped a lot to flatten the infection rate curve and from June onwards the restrictions were lifted gradually. Masks are compulsory in public places and there are still restrictions on large gatherings. Unemployment relief packages are still in place benefiting a lot of people. The poorest of the poor receive grants that help in reviving the economy since the poor tend to buy locally produced goods. There are also stimulus packages to help businesses that were adversely affected by the lockdown.
Now the UK government is enforcing another 4 week lockdown I think they are doing the right thing for sure to try and get the virus under control
HI GARETH, I READ THE NEWS. LOCKDOWN SHOULD BE IMPOSED TO AVOID HUGE FATALITIES
THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT DID VERY POORLY.
From members reactions it’s evident that, only developed countries like UK, Australia, US etc have managed to assist it’s population to stay afloat during these hard times. They done so through provision stimulus packages to busineses and individual business people. But here in the 3rd world, no action has following that direction. Instead it the other way around, some governments have been asking individuals and companies to donate money and assets like vehicles. But to show that levels of greed have gone beyond control, even those donations have been stolen. It’s a very interesting and worrying situation.
It appears that countries around the world have done everything very differently as far assisting its people get through the pandemic. I suppose that not all countries are able to negotiate loans to be able to pay the stimulus to assist.
I know here in Australia we taxpayers will be repaying the loan for COVID stimulus for generations.
Yes the UK lockdown starts on Thursday so the shops are manic today with panic buying like the first lockdown.
Nigerian government did not do anything at all to support the citizens and economic activities, rather they are using the COVID-19 pandemic to loot public funds.
Very sad to hear that Kenneth – its such a shame when the government isnt working for the people or the country
Must government in Africa don’t care about their population’s health. What they care is how to remain at their position of leader to continue stealing country’s money, buy expensive cars, giving fake promises, telling lies.
In my country Gunnea Conakry while the whole world were trying to fight the spread of covid19, the government organized the legislative Election. What nonsense ?
That sounds bad Leno – it is scary to think that these people are running the country’s and stealing their money. Surely there must be a way to put a stop to all this corruption?
Mr Gareth my country is among the most corrupted countries in the world not only in Africa. The corruption is in the higher level, the government is made of thieves and corrupted leaders who don’t care about the country’s developement.
In fact none of them has his close family in the country, children, parents, wifes are abroad.
I think many governments have done whatever is possible to help their citizens. But most exceptions have been in Africa where in most countries it is “God for us and everybody for himself”
I think the Norwegian government have done a good job dealing with corona in Norway. We have partly lock down in many cities and many other restrictions.
361 persons are dead so far. Of course too many, but it is light in the tunnel. The health authorities start vaccination of people in Norway in January next year.
Haha, you see, what the Norwegian government has done for their citizens, it was not the same in many countries. In Morocco where I’m living, the government has supported their citizens a lot still now, citizens are receiving money from the government each month.
My government has not done anything at all. They even withheld perlatives.
In Guinea, the organised the presidential election while many countries were trying to fight for their citizens. Their ambitions was more important than the healthy of the population.
Sometimes we expect too much from our government. I don’t blame too much the government for not providing support to their citizens during this pandemic, no one, no government, no organization were prepared for this situation, it appeared sundendly accros the world, even developed countries has struggled to solve the problem. We can how much the US government is suffering to solve the pandemic despiste being the powerful country in the world.
Citizens of my country Uganda never expected much from the government. After all, the government is taking from them too much and giving back nothing. It was a shame that the president went on television and asked citizens to donate money and essential items, and citizens donated handsomely, but to the annoyence of the people, those donations were stolen by government ministers. It disgusts me so much.
I think the government in my country Norway have been very clever to handle the corona pandemic. They have joined with EU in support of the companies that have been developing corona vaccines. The vaccination of people has started.
I can see Steinar, your country is pro people, hmmm you are living in the developed world, you are lucky, I live in Uganda. Political Hyenas are living in this country, and the mother of all is the head of state. Pray for us!!
O M G, that was really an unthinkable thing that your government did Mr Jackson, what a horrible and shameless government. Instead of helping poor people with the money that kind people have donated, they stole that money to put it in their pockets. They have no pity for the people. God will punish them for their acts.
Have you seen, this is what we call good government Steinar. You can not see such leaders in Africa, they are not satisfied with what they have been stolen since arrived in power. Norway government has really did good thing for their population. You’re lucky,it is the contrary in most countries in Africa.
I said it Steinar, Norway is one of my best countries to live in 🙂9
They have not do anything. They just there embezzling our money
We expected them to do more beyond what they have done previously
Many countries have helped their citizens during the pandemic, it’s a shame my country has not done anything.
I can’t blame them too much, because they were not prepared for such situation, Corina virus appears suddenly accros the world, even developed countries have had issue to handle the situation.
I think you are right in a way not to blame the government Leno, however in case of my country, we have got the ministry called Desaster Preparedness Ministry, fully fledged. I wonder what the use of such a ministry is! They were as helpless as the people themselves.
Hi, Jackson.
In my country, the team to handle the coronavirus pandemic is headed by the National Board for Disaster Management. At the provincial and city level, the team is headed by the Governor and Major of each city.
In the case of your country, does that ministry handle all the work at the ministry level?
Hi Ahmad, yes there’s a team that was formed to coordinate these activities, but it falls under the same ministry. However, everything was messed up, items and money that were collected was stolen.
They have not do much during the covid 19 pandemic. They should always consider the welfare of their citizens
I can say that they didn’t do too much for their citizens, the problem is they were not prepared to face this huge pandemic. Most people died and left children and families behind them.
Hi, Jackson.
It seems that the pandemic has caused a chaotic situation in any bureaucracy. In my city, the audit for COVID-19 budget found several flaws and violations of financial regulations.
However, in Indonesia, the bureaucracy to handle COVID-19 is decentralized under the Ministry of Health’s supervision.
Hi, Leno.
I think no government has done the necessary preparation to face this event. They don’t even think that this pandemic would happen. It is the same both in the developed and developing country. But, to say that the government didn’t do much is not true. If we were to go through this pandemic without our government’s help, we would have been lost everything during the first three months.
Ahmad, it’s true what you said, but in some countries, government thieves have taken advantage of situation to still everything they could find on their way.
The government haven’t done enough for their citizens. They have to put more effort.
