Humankinds Excessive Need to Pass Judgments and Need to Compare Themselves to Others

We as humans always feel the need to compare ourselves to other and pass judgments so quickly I myself am guilty of it sometimes and have been wondering why do we have a need to pass judgments and why are we so quick to compare ourselves to others? I would love to hear your opinion on this?

Great question Collins.

I think both of them, the need to pass judgments and comparing oneself to others, are the basic needs of human being, rooted in their need for existence. Human have a deep desire to get acknowledgement for their existence. By existence, I mean both the physical and mental existence. In the mental side, human need acknowledgement for their opinion and thought. They need, often unconsciously,  others to think that their opinion and thought is right and better than others. Passing judgement to others means that they have better opinion on what is better.

And I believe that people are doing and will keep doing both of these as long as they feel a deep dissatisfaction with themselves.

This happens in our society daily. Some fail to know the all details about an issue before passing judgements especially when the other person is in friends with them. There is that urge to pass quick judgement to feel glad. When love is present, this need would not erupt.

It is all because of the ego. It has to justify its existence and relevance by overemphasizing its perceived superiority.
To ascertain it’s assumed superiority, it has to compare and judge and derive satisfaction in knowing it’s the best.

Without comparing ourselves to others, we won’t see reasons to do more. We aspire greater heights when we compare ourselves to others who have pass the stage.

People always want more than their neighbour and always want to be seen as better. Having a higher status job, being paid more, driving a more expensive car. Its the competitive nature we all have

When we compare ourselves to others, it can only propels the person to aspire high level of life.

We often pass judgement too quickly before thinking twice, but it’s advisable to think twice before jumping on to judge others. Rushed judgements are often contraversial and not good.

This comparaison and judgement make some people jealous to their neighbors and friends. It also allow certain people to know that they have to wake up and work to try to catch up their friends and neighbors. Sometimes it gave us an encouragement .

Its human nature to compare ourselves to our neighbors and friends as they are the only reference point we have on if we are being successful or not. The criteria used is not always accurate and it is only face value. for example your neighbor might have a brand new £50000 car but you have an old £5000 car. On face value he is doing better than you but in your bank account you might have £100000 of savings and he has nothing.

Comparison in this aspects… I think is good because it will enable one to sit up, by learning from those who are doing better than him/ her

Everyone needs a benchmark to set their expectations against. If they have nothing to compare against they cant improve or get better
