Is Leadership a Skill That We Develop or a Gift That We Are Born With?
Leadership is a critical component of success in business and life. It is the characteristic that distinguishes between average and a great boss. Under a great leader, every follower will be of value. Even there is a saying that there is no bad followers, only bad leaders.
For some people, leadership is like second nature, while for others, leadership is a difficult trait to perform. However, despite all of this, leadership is a quality that must be possessed by any aspiring entrepreneur. Thus, what do you think about a person’s possession of leadership?
Is leadership a skill that we can cultivate, or it is a gift that we are born with?
You come to this world as a leader. But you can develop it with practice and experience. Some people are leaders by nature. Some people can only be followers. Both groups need each others.
How can a person born as a leader but then can only be a follower?
We all are Born naked and equal. There are some factors that influence our ability to understand things, to learn or to develop our mindset.
We all have also some potential inside of us that can be use to develop your mentality, skills, way to understand things, capacity and any personal developpement.
For me anyone can be a leader if you want to be so, you must be mentally ready to develop your brain .you have a potential to be a great leader.
I think some people are able to lead with little to no effort but they need to have a little development to fine tune their skills. There are other people that can be developed into good leaders and then there are others that are given leadership roles that should never be in those positions.
Leno — Thank you for your detailed answer. Indeed, each human was given a gift of beneficial traits. And these traits can be developed further by learning, experience, and practice.
Edward — Thank you Edward. I have friends who are natural leader and those that developed leadership by practice.
I think either way, we are born with those skills but as we grow, we begin to develop the skills to be better and sharp. We are born with skills and they only get better as we grow because we get education and develop.
Leaders that do not have the natural qualities need to have a really good mentor
Leadership qualities in born, one need to expand in knowledge in other to feature very well.
Jackson — Do you mean that we have rudimentary skills when we were born and we sharpen them during all of our lifetime?
It’s true Ahmed, as we grow and attend school, some leadership traits start showing up and then we nature them to become real leadership skills. However, it’s also true that there are those who became followers too.
Thank you Jackson. Many times I observed that those who can be a loyal and good followers eventually emerge as good leaders.
There are people that have innate leadership skills and with education, they become great leaders.
Also, there are some people that are innately gifted with leadership skills but through enlightenment their leadership skills are developed.
We are all born with equal potential but we come with different genes and we develop differently. You can be born with leadership traits but fail to become a leader and we can have somebody becoming a leader through development and grooming.
We are born with a vast amount of skill sets but I suppose it is up to an individual to decide with what they develop better at first. I am sure it all depends on a persons interests and hobbies growing up that ultimately determine what skill sets we develop as teenagers and adults. We are not all born to be the same so it’s okay if you are not a leader we are all meant to be different because you may not be the best leader but you may be very good at something entirely different.
Victor — You said it right. These are the fortunate person who born great and grow great. They have innate gift of leadership quality and they grow in a perfect condition that promotes the development of this gift.
David — The majority of the case falls in this category. There are those who born great but fail to cultivate their gift and eventually become a mediocre and has little impact with their gift. In contrast, there those whose innate gift is not that great but they proceed exceptionally in life, they cultivate their leadership skills through learning and experience, these people finally become great leaders.
Collins — Yes, the good is not only for leaders. You can be contribute meaningfully to the society and humanity beyond the framework of leader-follower. You can be a good leader and contribute meaningfully, and be a good follower and do the same. But of course you can be neither follower nor leader to contribute meaningfully to the society. There are “lone wolves” whose life worth remembering and whose contributions to society is immense.
We were born with gifts and some talents but in order to become efficient we have to develop our potential.each one is talented in something the matter is How to identify your gifts and develop it to become successful.
Leno — It seems that it is the perspective of the majority of members here. We are born with innate ability and we develop it further in our life time.
That’s why we go to school to develop our leadership skills, though some people are born with it.others copy from their friends those who are willing to learn.there are also some individuals who refuse totally to learn.
I will say that leadership is inborn, but, it requires training skills to perfect it.
Some individuals develop leadership skills, while some are born with it.
