🔏Rumors of Another Hard Lockdown in South Africa?

There has been no announcement as of yet however there are whispers that South Africa may go into a hard lockdown again as the covid-19 pandemic approaches the second wave of infections. Here in South Africa we are already back on level 3 restrictions and alcohol sales are once again prohibited. The first hard lockdown has caused many South Africans to close businesses permanently, many people have been retrenched and or fired due to the financial distress the recovery from this is still underway and I am sure this has not just happened in South Africa alone. The government recourses are also running very low due to the first hard lockdown and has not had enough time to regenerate these recourses and or finances to help citizens where they can. For some reason it also seems as if South Africans have little regard for the basic rules to try and contain the spread of the virus. People are just not wearing their masks hence why we are back at level 3 restrictions. There of course are rumors roaming that we may face yet another hard lockdown I really hope that not to be true because I can not see anyone surviving another hard lockdown without an income and then I have not even yet mentioned the countless lives that where lost due to the pandemic. The hospitals are even fuller than before and I am very worried as to how the second wave will go down. What do you think could there be truth in the rumor of another hard lockdown or do you think it is unlikely?

Government must first put into consideration how poor people will survive in the lockdown. But I see no reason why it should not be enforced if the government can distribute essential needs to be local person. Let it provide food and impose a lockdown to curb the spread of the disease.

People Will suffer, specially poor people who don’t have anything to to feed their children. They should think about it before taking any decision.

I really hope they think about it.

Lock down if well done can stop the spread of Covid 19 disease.Let the masses support the lockdown.

Shane Collins replied 3 weeks ago

The problem Eli is that the masses is against another hard lockdown including me we are suffering financial distress with seemingly no end and or relief in sight. South African people have a tendency to disregard the simplest of rules like wearing a mask but who can blame them when the people running the circus also have little regard for the rules seeing as our minister of police tended a huge New Years party where no social distancing took place and of course no mask was worn. We really have a huge problem here apart from listening to rules no one can financially survive more lockdown just before the pandemic happened and lockdown started South Africa went into yet another recession before all this even took place so now everyone’s finances are looking worse than before with little relief offered from the beginning of the first lockdown until now. So I refuse to support another lockdown as even our law enforcers refuse to adhere to the situations severity and I can not afford it.

I think the government should think about the economy of the people when there is a lockdown, apart from their health concerns.
Even if the lockdown is carried out without paying people’s living costs, it will create new problems, namely hunger and unemployment

Shane Collins replied 3 weeks ago

Adharad peoples livelihoods where not considered in the first place an SRD grant of only R350 was issued to offered relief and I can not see much help coming from that. UIF funds have been depleted and way to much fraud has taken place. Hunger and higher unemployment rates has already taken place due to the first hard lockdown so if there is truth in this rumor I can not see many people surviving another lockdown. I do not want to see the devastating effects. I know the virus is an issue but we are going to have to find another way.

What unexpectable situation, it is very sad to hear that, poor people will suffer for living. The government should think about the poor citizens and bring support during that period.

I think the government is obliged to pay full attention to the poor.

Many people have suffered during the lock down in my country, no money, no food, people have to get out of their houses in order to feed their children and take care of them. It has really increase the rate of poverty.

I agree, Leno.
It also happened in my country, a lot of unemployment and layoffs due to this pandemic.
I hope this will end soon

Shane Collins replied 3 weeks ago

Leno and Adharad do you not maybe think there is a better way of dealing with the pandemic as lockdown just seems to make matters worse. There must be a way to keep the economy open and people healthy.

Right, Shane.
That is a challenge for governments across countries.
Even though the pandemic is not over yet, the people’s economy must be guaranteed

I totally agree with you, the lock down will not be respected at 100% by the people. We are tired and hungry, we don’t have nothing to feed our family and children. The government should really find another way to deal with this pandemic.

This is a really tough decision I am sure for every government. I know here in Sydney part of the greater metro area was locked down for a few weeks and part of that area is still locked down.
Our Prime Minister today told us that the vaccine is not the magic pill that will ensure that we live COVID free for a long time to come.
I really don’t know what the answer is but I am sure that we do not need to see hundreds or thousands of people die each day and have our hospitals under so much stress that the medical staff are unable to cope.

So there was no truth in the rumor after all because of consideration of closing the economy once more will not be beneficial However level 3 restrictions are at play keeping as much of the economy open as possible however the fact that the alcoholic sector being closed lots of people will remain without an income until the restrictions are lifted.

I think they has finally arrived to the best decision. The lock down was not the best solution for the poor citizens who need to work everyday to make their living.
