🤪Should People With Mental Health Problems Be Allowed to Own a Gun?
Mental health problem is a situation where a person suffered from various mental disorders that affect his/her mood, thinking, and behavior.
Most of the time, these disorders promote harmful behavior to other people. In that case, the presence of a person with mental health problems entail risk to his peers.
In several countries, such as the US, people are allowed to own a gun. Although there are conditions that must be met, there is a probability that the screening process is not too strict. Thus, leaving a group of risky people can own a gun.
One of those risky people is a person with mental health disorders. In your opinion, should they be allowed to own a gun?
People who has mental disorders should not be allowed to own guns,they can kill their relatives,non relatives and others for no reason causing gun misuse.
Interesting question although I feel many people living with mental health disorders are just as normal as you and I yes sure some mental health disorders can be severe but normally when a person mental health disorder becomes a danger to themselves and or others these mental health disorders can be managed with various treatment options and or hospital admission treatments.
Then you also get people with less severe mental health disorders that are treated in many ways and successfully managed.
It has been proven to be a myth that people living with mental health disorders are not more dangerous than anyone else so someone living with a mental health disorder and owning a gun is also not going to make such a person more dangerous and or different to someone unaffected by a mental health disorder.
However people living with a mental health disorders may be very suicidal and by allowing guns we make it easier to sometimes commit the act therefor the only reason why I believe that it should be taken into consideration when gun licenses are issued.
Then again the minority can not be punished for a small group of people and a procedure should be put into place to determine and or evaluate everyone’s mental capability to own a gun.
Like I have mentioned above mental health disorders are manageable and of the end of the world still making people living with mental heath disorders just as normal you and I therefor people living with mental health disorders should be fine with owning a gun.
People with mental health disorder should not allow to own a gun, they can cause many issues and kill people.
In my country the possession of weapons is illegal. Maybe some people can have it but must get permission from related parties

Not at all,is a very big risk allowing mentally unbalanced people to own a gun. These type of people can come out on the street of their country and open live bullets on passersby.

We should never allow them to access the knife, gun or firearm. They are out of their mind and can shoot on anything which is very dangerous.
A mental health disorder can be many things. A person with a mental disorder can be just as normal than you and me. It is possible such a person can have interest of shooting competitions or hunting. To have permision to own a weapon you normally must have a license for it from the police. I think we shall leave this decision to the police departement.

In that extreme case for people who obviously show a mental disorder, of course, the police department will not grant the license to own a gun. Allowing them to own a gun will pose a huge risk to people around them.

I agree with you that people with mental health disorder are no different than normal people. But they have a risk of uncontrolled behaviour that will harm both themselves and other people. Arming them with a gun will worsen the consequences of this uncontrollable behaviour because we provide them with a weapon that will increase the risk of damage. Don’t you think that not allowing these people to own a gun will reduce that risk?

I agree with you that people with obvious mental disorder should not be allowed to own a gun. But, I think that the police department or authority who grant the license will notice that easily. It means that the authority will not grant a person a license to own a gun if he has an obvious and severe mental disorder. The problem is that most people with mental disorder are no different than normal people who require strict and careful screening.

Owning a gun is illegal in Indonesia. There are only two groups in Indonesia who own a gun, The Police and The Army. I think, outside these two groups, owning a firearm is illegal.

In a normal situation, people with a mental health disorder are no different than us. On a particular occasion, they will have uncontrollable behaviour that poses a risk to other people. And this risk will increase if they own a gun. If we let them own a gun, does it mean that we allow the community to live with that risk?
Based on your experience in the public sector, should the authority that grants the owning gun license screen out people with a mental disorder?
It’s very risky and it will put many people’s lives at risk. Besides the likely hood of killing others, this person can kill himself/ herself.

I read the news and saw a video on Twitter from the Philippines. A policeman shot two of his neighbors because they had disagreements. In fact, he shot in front of his biological child.
