🐵 Should Trophy Hunting Be Banned?
Trophy hunting is the hunting of wild game characterized by the selective harvest of mature male animals. Hunters must apply for a government hunting license to hunt these animals. They pay large sums of money to kill the wild animals, posing with their kill and keeping the head of the animal as a souvenir.
Animal lovers and some conservationists are not happy about this. They argue that:
- Trophy hunting harms conservation – wild life game drive tourism generates far more income to support conservation and provide more jobs to local communities.
- Trophy hunters prefer to kill the largest, strongest and heathiest animals whose loss causes populations to decline.
- With so much corruption in government, rules are broken to benefit the hunters and the government officials and not conservation.
This clearly reveals the hidden ills of trophy hunting as a wild life conservation measure.
Should this practice be banned?
I think it’s ok since it generates revenue for the concerned authorities and it’s done selectively by hunting only animals deemed to be old and nolonger of any use.
There is no justification for trophy hunting and it should be banned all over the world.
I think if it is done in a manner that does not involve corruption and it provides an income to people in Africa that really need it and it also does not compromise the regeneration of herds then it should continue. The strict rules should be observed but there are certain things that stand in the way of this and that is human greed.
Plenty of other ways to make money rather than shooting animals.
It should be banned, there are several ways for government to earn money, not killing willingly Wild animal for their purpose and pleasure.
I strongly agree with banning trophy hunting.
Is there a way to support this cause? If there is, I will personally support that movement.
I do not believe in trophy hunting and hope it gets put to a stop.
Calls for a complete ban on trophy hunting are made by an organization called Humane Society International. Their website is hsi.org.
This organization is made to killing animals and the call it human society organization. After killing the animal what you do they do with its body ? They are contributing to the decline of the animals.
There are several organisations out there helping to try and ban trophy hunting – hopefully they will make some progress. Once I make my millions I will certainly donate to help stop it.
Great Mr Gareth, it’s a good idea,if you talk to people about it, you will certainly find many volunteers to help you, specially those who are interested in bioconsevation and environmental condition.
David — I have visited their website, and I can say that they are doing great and noble works. It seems that they have been making great progress now.
Trophy hunting is very dangerous especially if allowed to be done in countries which are known for corruption.without proper supervision, animals can be finished in national parks which may result into imbalance in ecosystems.

It can also lead to the extinction of rare species .there must be a regulation for killing animals in that way.
