USA voting system is very difficult to analyse. It’s constitution demands an indirect system to elect the president. People elect a college of electors that elects the president. Each state is allocated a number of electors according to population. They have 538 electors and the candidate who gets a simple majority of 270 votes takes it. That’s why 10 million common votes and another has 8 million votes with 270 electors takes the sit.

Good to know exactly how to elect an American president. Am still learning about it. America is a developed country with a large population and many educated and intelligent people must have many challenges when it comes to holding presidential elections.

Its always a strange system because they dont actually count all the votes – its the first one to get a certain number I believe

The US presidential election system uses votes cast by electors of the electoral college instead of the national popular vote.

It’s really amazing that one can lose the elections in US and still become a president.
And, this was the case in the last elections, Hiraly Clinton won by more than 3 million votes. I’d call this undermining democracy….!
A more veibrant system should be adopted.

It’s is the usual method. The candidates are elected directly by popular vote. But the president and vice president are not elected directly by citizens, instead, they are chosen by electors through a process called the electoral college. To win the election a candidate must receive a majority of electoral votes.

Hearing in the media this morning Trump is saying that the postal voting system is not as secure as the ballot box. As many US voters have cast their ballots by post does this mean if Trump loses he will challenge the result through the courts on the basis of a lack of security around the security of postal votes?

Yes I read that to Edward and in all fairness agree with Trump. It should be done by an actual person putting the slip in a box. Unless exceptional circumstances like chronic illness, disability when a trusted person can do it on their behalf. The postal system is very easy to manipulate if you are motivated enough.

The system will remain the same. The president and vice president are chosen through electoral college.

The US election is not a direct election. It means that the US citizen do not elect their president directly. The US citizen elect their electors in the state where they lived. And then this electors who in turn elect the president on behalf of the US citizen.

In total, there 538 electoral college. Thus, the presidential candidate who receives at least 270 will win the presidency.

I think US has one of the best voting system because because it’s where democracy began and they have been voting since the American war of independence of 1877. Their voting system must be efficient and should be mentained.

Over the years America has been using electronic voting system, I think it has been working for them, so they won’t change it.
